Menopause occurs 5 years earlier after hysterectomy. After hysterectomy women are infertile and don't have periods.
Normally women will have hormone replacement therapy, as early menopause leads to a higher incidence of heart disease, bowel cancer, osteoporosis. As a result of changes in hormone levels and early menopause enjoyment of sex and sex drive can be adversely affected. Are there some other long term side effects?

It is understandable that long-term side effects will develop after months or years after a hysterectomy. All women who have had a hysterectomy will be infertile and it is one of the worst side effect Some women may also experience: a buildup of lymph fluid, such condition is called lymphedema, if lymph nodes in the pelvis are removed during a radical hysterectomy.

There are some other side effects such as: treatment-induced menopause. But it occurs if both ovaries are removed in premenopausal women. Also some women experience vaginal shortening. this condition may occur after a radical hysterectomy.
One more is blockage of the intestine. It is called bowel obstruction. It is caused by adhesions.

To the long term side effects can be added fistulas or abnormal openings. They can occur between the bladder and the vagina, between the rectum and the vagina or between the ureters and the vagina. They may cause some urine or feces to leak through the vagina.
Sexual problems such as painful intercourse? vaginal dryness or loss of interest in sex.

Short-term side effects are not less important and it will be good to know all of the as well. Do you know what can happen during, immediately after or a few weeks after a hysterectomy? Short-term side effects of hysterectomy include: bleeding, bladder problems, pain, wound or pelvic infection, lung infection, vaginal discharge.

I can add a few side effects to the previous list. So, it is onstipation or paralytic ileus, blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism), blood clots in the legs (deep vein thrombosis).
Short-term bladder problems may include losing the feeling of having to urinate or not being able to empty the bladder completely. These problems can happen if the nerves that supply the bladder muscle are damaged. Sometimes women also may develop long-term bladder problems.
